Weird Cures

Full disclosure: You shouldn't trust some guy on the internet for medical advice. I'm not even certified to practice (yet) in the area I went to school for. I'm maintaining this page more for myself to make sure I don't forget anything.

I'm not a sickly person, but I'm not hyperimmune either. These are weird cures for things that ail me.

Asthma

If its triggered by allergies: allergy meds, duh. Helped me sleep when I was breathing bad enough to not sleep.

When my symptoms worsened to the point I was considering going to the hospital, ~12oz of medium roast coffee. Apparenly caffeine is a bronchodialator and I felt that effect ~5min of drinking. Drink it quick, not slow; you want to be hit with the effects ASAP.

Constipation

Caffeine. I won't belabor this but I've tried a lot and caffeine is both easy to get when I need it and pretty effective.

Nausea

My nausea cure is a bottle of isopropyl alcohol (or alcohol wipes, whichever I have on hand) and Jolly Ranchers (or some other kind of hard candy). The former I learned through experience and got validated when I was given an alcohol wipe by a nurse when I started to have physiological reactions to my blood being taken. Even under that kind of stress, it took ~5min to help.

Jolly Ranchers are great because they're palatable, you don't need to swallow them, you can buy them in bulk, and they're easy to carry. Jolly Ranchers are used to combat nausea from low sugar. If I'm nauseous, I won't eat, which will exacerbate the nausea. Hard candy helps get enough sugar into my system for my body to accept actual food.

If you have the space: freeze yourself. Bathtubs are great for this, and tile floors are good too. If its cold outside: go outside! Or at least get a cold pack or wet rag. Pop some hard candy when you're around 98F to deal with low sugar and keep some isopropyl alcohol on hand and take a nap.
